Civil defense was an ever-present concern in the Cold War era. Here a group of Washington Junior High students, in 1962, is led through an exercise involving the evacuation of their school and a walk to Capitol Campus where they would be expected to seek safety in the event of an attack (the school was located in what is now the Knox Administration Building on Legion Way).
