Letter From The President

Greetings from the President,

Many thanks to member Roger Easton for organizing yet another successful event honoring Olympia’s sesquicentennial year, this time at Priest Point Park on Saturday, August 22nd. Even the weather cooperated! The crowd enjoyed listening to the old time music played by fiddler Vivian Williams and guitarist Phil Williams. Their descriptive anecdotes about the tunes were a nice touch. Russ and Genevieve Hupe oversaw the activities at the main tent, answering questions about the Olympia Historical Society and the display of historical photographs gathered by Roger from various sources. Susan Goff and I gave our talk on logging and Isaac Ellis to an appreciative and inquisitive audience. I dare say that the other speakers that day, Drew Crooks on the Chalet, Shanna Stevenson on the Mission and Father Ricard, and the South Sound Story Guild, had similar experiences.

Before the event, we held our general membership meeting at shelter #2, despite the noise created by the squawking of the resident crows and the grounds crew loudly mowing the lawns. Thanks to Lois Fenske for not just performing her own duties as treasurer admirably, but also for filling in as secretary. Thanks to Ralph Blankenship for bringing the all important refreshments during the “meet and greet” session. Meet and greet we did as we were delighted to meet new members, Mark Derricott and Pennelope Goforth.

The next general membership meeting will be held in November. The time, place and featured speaker will be announced soon.

Lanny
