The Sunday Olympian’s Looking Back theme for 2024 was Many Voices, celebrating our diverse and rich history. In 1975, large numbers of Vietnamese refugees arrived in the US at temporary resettlement centers. When California Governor Jerry Brown refused them permanent settlement status, Washington Governor Dan Evans asked staff member (later Secretary of State) Ralph Munro, pictured here, to go to Camp Pendleton and invite the refugees to settle in Washington State. They and their descendants continue to contribute to our vibrant community.
