Sheriff William Billings erected the handsome brick home at the southwest corner of 9th and Washington in the 1870s. The photograph at above left shows his wife, Janet Ballentyne Billings and their daughter Blanche in front of the home. The house was later razed and a three-story mansion was erected by George Mottman, owner of Mottman Mercantile. That home later was abandoned and eventually razed to make way for the Aladdin Motor Inn which fronted Capitol Way, now the Towne Suites.
