Anyone with an interest in local history and the visual arts will look forward to viewing the new exhibit “Our Town” opening at the Washington Center for Performing Arts on Monday January 23rd. The exhibit has been designed and produced by the Olympia Arts & Heritage Alliance (AHA) which is also host for the opening reception beginning at 5:30 on the 23rd at the Washington Center downtown. The content of the exhibit is based on the “Sylvester’s Window” series of eight panoramic-view paintings of Sylvester Park and Olympia’s historic core from its origins as Cheetwoot in the 1840s to Arts Walk in 2001. A perfect blend of art, history, and education, Sylvester’s Window was conceived of by Lynn Erickson with paintings executed by Kamilche artist Richard Chamberlain. You will not want to miss this exhibit; but you can also view the paintings on the OHS-BHM website by following this link: https://olympiahistory.org/sylvesters-window/. Copies of the paintings (reduced in size) as well as the school curriculum that accompanies the art work is available for purchase by contacting the OHS-BHM at olyhistory@gmail.com.
